Koukouvaya (Chania)

Situated 5 km from the city centre of Chania, Koukouvaya is worth the ride at least for the panoramic view that you can enjoy from its terrace, which overlooks Chania bay and the old Venetian harbour. Its name means "the owl" in Greek and the decor of the interiors is inspired by these fascinating nocturnal creatures. The cafe serves snacks and salads prepared with fresh local ingredients, as well as mouth-watering homemade desserts and a variety of beverages with or without alcohol.

Cafes

The traditional Cretan Kafenios are sadly beginning to disappear, replaced by Western style cafés and coffee culture, but for now the tradition lives on. Remember that Greek coffee is quite strong and you need to specify your desired sweetness when ordering. The numerous modern places that you can find everywhere on the island offer, among other things, espresso, cappuccino, filter coffee, sweet treats and savoury snacks.
