TRAVEL TIPS

By Air

Cairo is the main entry point for international flights and has the most international arrivals of any other destination in Egypt. The airport is divided into three terminals: Terminal 1 for domestic flights only, Terminal 2 for most international flights, and Terminal 3 for EgyptAir and its Star Alliance partners.

Airport Transfers

If you are traveling independently, taxis and limousines are the best option for getting to and from the airport. The minute you exit the arrivals hall, you will be inundated with offers from taxi drivers. This will be your first opportunity to test out your bargaining skills—you should be able to bring the price down to around £E60. Keep in mind that most taxis will not use their meters. If you are too tired to go through the hassle, opt for one of the limousine companies located in the arrivals hall for a flat fee of £E80 to £E100 for central Cairo hotels, £E140 for Giza hotels. Cairo taxis are black and white or black and yellow; limousines are black, usually old-model Mercedes sedans. Getting to the airport from the city is much easier, because you can have your hotel arrange your transportation.

The airport also has a fleet of modern shuttle buses that travel to and from the airport to Downtown, Giza, Heliopolis, Mohandiseen, Ma'adi, Nasr City, and Zamalek. Buses depart every 30 minutes, and single tickets cost £E25 to Heliopolis and £E35 to Downtown.
